Kootu

Ingredients

Thoovar dhal     1/2 cup
Tamarind            marble size
Vegetables like brinjal,ash- gourd,cho - chow and yam

Masala ingredients

Urad dhal            1 tbs
Channa dhal         1 tbs
Pepper corns         1/2 tsp
Red chillies          5-6
Fresh coconut       2 tbs
(dessicated)
Oil
Asafoetida             1/2 tsp
Salt as per taste
Curry leaves

Preparation
Pressure cook the Thoovar dhal with 2 parts of water and keep it aside.In a pan roast all the masala ingredients along with fresh grated coconut and powder them in a mixie.Some like it to be a paste.You can try both methods.Saute the vegetable of your choice.Extract the tamarind juice and boil it with salt,turmeric powder and after raw smell goes add the ground mixture or masala paste to the already cooked thoovar dhal and stir well by adding salt.Temper with mustard seeds and curry leaves and asafoetida.While cooking it emanates a nice aroma.The Kootu is ready to serve.It goes well with White Rice.
