Urad dhal 1cup
Thuvar dhal 2 spoons
Curd (yogart) 1/2 litre
Coconut grating 1 cup
Green chillies 2 or 3
Ginger 1 /2 inch
Oil for deep frying
Salt to taste
Preparation
Soak it for 2 hours and grind it to a smooth paste.The batter should be soft and of dropping consistency.
Heat a pan pour oil and make small balls of the batter and put one by one in oil and deep fry them till they turn golden yellow.After frying soak in warm water for a few secs and then soak the fried vadas in curd mixed with required amt of salt.The curd should not be sour.Sprinkle chilli powder and jeera powder for topping.Can be served Khara Boondi.If you refrigerate it enhances the taste.
Variation
Use fresh coconut gratings,few green chillies and 1small piece of ginger and grind them to a fine paste and mix it with the curd adding enough salt.This forms a nice gravy in which you can soak the fried vadas and gets the shape of Dahi Vada.The curd should not be sour.You can garnish with Khara Boondi.
