Channa Masala

Ingredients

Channa(kabuli)                1 cup
Onion  (medium)             2
Tomatoes (puree)             3
Ginger/garlic paste           1 tbs
Green chillies slit              2
Jeera                                  2 tsps
Cloves                               3
Cinnamon                         1"
Bay leaves                         2
Channa masala powder     3 tsps
Oil                                     3tbs
Turmeric powder               1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Preparation

Soak the channa overnight. Wash and cook it in a pressure cooker until it is tender.Now heat a pan and pour some oil and when it is still hot saute the cut onions and cool it.Grind this with 2 green chillies to a fine paste.Heat oil in a pan and fry cinnamom,cardamom and cloves and the bay leaves.Add the onion paste along with the sliced tomatoes or the tomato puree and cook on a slow flame till the raw smell goes.Add the ginger/garlic paste and stir fry for some more time.Keep it covered and cook on a low flame.To this add the slit green chillies,red chilli powder,jeera powder and channa masala powder. Cook till the oil gets separated.Now finally add the cooked channa to this gravy along with water in which it has been cooked and salt and bring it to a boil.Stir well and cook over a low flame for 7-8 mins.Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot.This will go well with
Poori or Chappati.
